“In a hurry to get home, my mate?” Geoffrey teased, mirth making his tone gruff.
Zander tilted his head and grinned up at his mate. “Yep. And do you know what will happen when we get there?”
“What’s that?”
After a glance around, discovering that everyone had left the room—probably waiting for them downstairs—Zander whispered, “You’re going to start a roaring fire in the fireplace while I get naked.” He slid his right hand higher, tracing his fingertips down Geoffrey’s jaw as he continued softly, “I’m going to stretch myself, and you’re going to slide this thick shaft into my ass.” With his left hand, he reached between them and cupped his gargoyle’s prick through his loincloth, pleased to feel his lover’s dick already hard and ready. “And you’re going to sink these—” He traced Geoffrey’s sharp canines— “Into my neck.”
Geoffrey shivered under his touch and growled low in his throat.
Zander hummed at the sexy noise. He didn’t know if the gargoyle responded that way because Zander cupped his cock, traced his sensitive teeth, or just because of the image he created. Hell, at this point, Zander didn’t care. He wanted everything his gargoyle offered him.
His eyes narrowing, Zander continued, “Then, we’ll sixty-nine until we’re both hard again, and I’ll claim your ass, too. I’ll bite you, even though I don’t have to, and bond us until the end of our days.” Zander met Geoffrey’s lust filled gaze. “How does that sound?”
“Sounds like I’m going to fly us right home.”
Then, Geoffrey swept Zander into his arms. Laughing, Zander enjoyed being carried through the house, clinging to his lover and looking forward to what was to come. Geoffrey hollered that he’d talk to the alpha tomorrow, not missing a step. Outside, Geoffrey spread his wings and flew them home, where they did just as Zander had predicted.
Epilogue
Two Weeks Later
“Geoffrey!”
Upon hearing Zander shouting his name, Geoffrey lifted his head from where he focused on the nail gun he wielded. He exchanged looks with Vane, Raymond, and Jimmy. They were all in human form, something Geoffrey was still getting used to. Vane and Raymond, the gargoyle mates of brothers Matthew and Marty Beakman, were visiting from Durango to help Jimmy and Logan build a large shop. Logan planned to use the building to fashion hand-crafted furniture. Then, the gargoyles and their mates would help Geoffrey move Zander to Durango. A local wolf shifter in Abbott’s pack was in the process of buying Zander’s goat farm.
Geoffrey couldn’t believe how quickly everything was coming together. He felt truly blessed by Fate.
“Wooee, he sounds angry,” Jimmy teased. “What did you do?”
“I-I don’t know,” Geoffrey responded truthfully. When he’d left Zander with his friends on the back deck where they were working on putting together a workbench and a number of shelves while the gargoyles and shifter finished the last of the drywall, he’d received a kiss and a flirty smile.
What could have upset his mate so greatly?
“Better get over there and find out,” Vane advised, his deep voice rumbling with concern. “Misunderstandings and confusion can tear a relationship apart.”
Geoffrey nodded. The other gargoyle knew that from experience. Vane and Matthew had had a rocky start to their relationship because of just those things. Nodding, Geoffrey set down the nail gun on a piece of plywood positioned over a pair of saw-horses. Then, he jogged from the shop and searched out his mate.
Finding the group of friends still on the back deck, Geoffrey took in the group as he strode toward them. Zander stood in the middle, his palms resting on the railing, his face pale. Logan stood to the right of the man, grimacing sheepishly. Marty rested against the railing on Zander’s other side, gently rubbing his back. Matthew stood on the other side of his brother, shaking his head and frowning at Logan.
“How was I supposed to know that Zander didn’t know?” Logan grumbled, rubbing a thumb over the scar on his cheek.
“Didn’t know what?” Geoffrey called, stopping below them.
Zander lifted his head at the sound of his voice. He frowned at him. “That you could get me fucking pregnant?”
Geoffrey felt his face blanch. He glanced between the men, then refocused on his mate. “Uh, I-I didn’t know you didn’t know,” he admitted.
“How would I have known if you didn’t tell me?” Zander snapped.
His dark brows drawing together, Geoffrey scratched at his thick hair…which had been an interesting thing to get used to, since he was practically hairless in gargoyle form. “I’m sorry, Zander,” Geoffrey murmured. “I really didn’t think about it. I mean, you asked about having kids that one day, then you always served cinnamon toast with breakfast. I just thought Logan had told you.”
Straightening, Zander cocked his head. “What does cinnamon toast have to do with this?”
“It’s a tasty contraceptive,” Marty spoke up. “A slice or two of cinnamon toast every morning and you don’t have to worry about getting pregnant.”
“Huh, okay,” Zander drew the word out. “You made it the first couple of days, so I thought you really liked it. That’s why I kept making it.” He shrugged and looked past Marty and focused on Matthew. “So, what, you stopped eating it by choice?”
Matthew chuckled and grinned. “Yep.”
Realizing he was missing something, Geoffrey took a second to really scent the human. His brows shot up as he caught the tell-tale smell. “Matthew, you’re pregnant?”
Grinning even wider, Matthew patted his belly. “Yep. Just confirmed it two days ago with Doc Perseus.”
“Congratulations,” Geoffrey cried.
To every gargoyle Geoffrey knew, every hatchling was a miraculous blessing.
“Thanks,” Vane said, striding up to stop next to the group. He crossed his thickly muscled arms over his barrel chest. “I’m scared shitless.”
Geoffrey peered at the man who looked like a Native American bodybuilder. “You’ll make a great father. Plus, you’ll have plenty of help.”
Vane sighed and nodded. “I know.” Then he quirked a brow and looked pointedly at his mate. “You better not be doing any heavy lifting.”
“You’re a very over-protective father-to-be,” Matthew stated. He leaned over the railing and pecked a kiss to Vane’s lips. “I’m being good.”
Growling, Vane cupped his cheek before bringing their lips together again and taking the kiss deeper.
Returning his focus to his mate, Geoffrey apologized. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I really thought you knew.”
Zander swung over the railing and dropped the few feet to the ground. Geoffrey welcomed him into his arms and nuzzled his temple. “I forgive you,” Zander murmured. Looking up at him, he waggled his brows. “I’ve always wanted kids. Maybe tonight we can start practicing.”
Geoffrey grinned down at his mate, lust igniting his blood. “You have yourself a deal.” He sealed his promise with a kiss.
